Circa 1927 Chevrolet Redlands Calif. Original Orchard Sprayer With Aux. Sprayer Engine
This 1927 (?)Chevrolet Redlands Calif. twin engine orchard sprayer is a beautiful piece of automotive Calif. orange grove history. It was used in the Redlands Calif. orange groves and eventually retired from service as a completely operating unit and retired to the Redlands barn in 1947.
Some very interesting facts about this beautiful and historical piece of automotive memorabilia are that it is totally complete and unmolested as retired. Behind the tank at the rear is the auxiliary engine that operates the spray function is a surplus USN power unit from WW2. It and its pump and drive assembly is one hundred percent complete and original even including the original hand starting “wood grip cotton starting rope.” Even the paint on this power unit is original including the original USN stencil. The engine and its components including the pump and chain drive mechanism are complete and “free”.
You will notice on the front of the truck the original “honeycomb” radiator that is completely free of the slightest damage and in absolutely mint condition. Wow!
On close examination will show the absolutely perfect shape of all the front sheet metal, hood and radiator shell. It all retains the balance of its “original paint.”
Also take note that the rear axel is equipped with a set of very rare “duels.” Check out the patina of the tires? Wow–too cool!
Another exciting area that has survived on this gorgeous piece of memorabilia is that on both sides of the spray tank hangs the original spray hoses complete with their individual spray wands and nozzles!! Too, too bitchen! Huh?
Is it in running condition now? No. Because the engine assembly is original and one hundred percent complete, could it be made to run? Probably? Don’t see why not?
Well anyways the pictures you see should show you a little more of this gems story. Thanks, Joe $2.4K
