1940 Mercury Sedan
THIS IS A MUST SEE CAR !
Beautiful and rare, this 1940 Mercury Sedan is sporting a 3/4 race Mercury 59AB flathead engine! There is approximately 100 miles on this beautiful car since it’s body off-chassis and body-ground up restoration. This was completed in 2005. Low miles are attributed to the fact that this car was transported to events in an enclosed trailer.
“To the bone” it is stock-appearing including the “3 on the tree” original column shift and dash. All the chrome and polished stainless original trim were professionally prepared. It also sports a set of extra wide 4 1/2 inch original style Firestone “gum dipped” 700 x 16 white walls. The interior is all stock, made of period style sewn cloth material. All Glass and regulators are excellent. There are no droopy door handles, excessive door gaps, misfitting or misaligned hood. It is also complete with original stainless steel “Merc embossed” hubcaps with original ribbed beauty rings. Under the hood, the engine compartment, firewall and fender wells are all refinished. Out front is a pair of original chromed “King Bee” fog lamps and inside sports an original southwind heater --- too cool!
The original 59AB large crank Merc flathead is a 3/4 race modified with Offenhauser high compression finned aluminum heads, a “3 duce” polished aluminum Cyclone intake manifold sporting 3 “97’s” on progressive linkage. They are all topped with chromed intake bonnets. Wow!
The runnig boards are stock and in great condition as are the original door sill plates. The dash is completely original including the heavy Merc treatment of the fluted blue plastic decorating the dash from side to side.
All of the “Mercury 8” chrome and painted lettered emblems, located at various places on the outside of the body, are in beautiful shape!
The cream vanilla paint scheme has been professionally applied over a seriously prepared “laser straight”, never any rust, on an original steele fat fendered body. The chassis and running gear are finished in flat black.
It has current California registration and is licensed thru April 2008. Offered at $23.5K
